Terms & Conditions
Village of Brooks Terms of Service
Effective Date: 10/26/2026
Website: www.villageofbrooks.org
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) describe the conditions for using the Village of Brooks (“VOB,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) website and related online services.
Where an activity requires agreement to these Terms, you will have an opportunity to review them before agreeing. Additional terms may apply to specific donations, events, purchases, or programs.
1. About Village of Brooks
VOB is an independent parent and community support organization serving the Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy community.
VOB collaborates with school leadership but does not operate the school or speak on behalf of Chicago Public Schools (“CPS”). VOB is separate from the school’s Parent Advisory Council and Local School Council.
2. Appropriate Website Use
You agree to use this website lawfully and respectfully. You may not:
-
Submit false, misleading, fraudulent, or unauthorized information.
-
Harass, threaten, or impersonate others.
-
Upload malicious software or attempt unauthorized access.
-
Publish another person’s private information without permission.
-
Infringe copyrights, trademarks, or other rights.
-
Collect contact information for unsolicited marketing.
-
Disrupt the website or misuse its forms or services.
We may restrict access or remove submissions reasonably believed to violate these Terms.
3. Accounts and Adult Responsibility
If website accounts are available, you are responsible for protecting your login credentials and notifying VOB of suspected unauthorized use.
An adult with legal capacity must make donations, authorize recurring payments, and enter purchase agreements. A parent or guardian must complete forms for children under 13 and authorize a minor’s participation when required.
4. Membership and Volunteering
Submitting an interest form does not guarantee a leadership role, committee appointment, volunteer assignment, or access to school facilities.
Membership and leadership eligibility follow VOB’s governing documents and applicable procedures.
Activities on school property may require CPS approval, screening, training, or other authorization. Submitting a VOB volunteer form does not establish CPS volunteer approval.
Volunteers must follow the requirements applicable to their assigned activity.
5. Donations and Fundraising Campaigns
Donations are voluntary. Campaign descriptions explain the intended purpose of each fundraiser.
VOB will honor accepted donor restrictions. If a restricted project becomes impracticable, is canceled, or receives excess funds, VOB will address the funds according to the campaign’s disclosed terms, donor instructions, and applicable law. We may seek donor permission for an alternative use.
General Eagle Fund donations support VOB’s mission and approved activities according to VOB’s authorization procedures.
Campaign totals may include online and recorded offline contributions. Timing differences, refunds, adjustments, or processing may affect displayed totals.
VOB does not guarantee that a campaign will reach its goal.
6. Payments and Recurring Gifts
Available payment methods and the applicable payment provider will be identified when you make a payment. Review the amount, any fees, and payment terms before completing your transaction.
If VOB offers recurring donations, the checkout process will explain the payment schedule and cancellation instructions. Canceling future payments does not automatically refund earlier donations.
For payment assistance, contact VOB using the information below. Do not send full payment-card numbers or other sensitive payment credentials by email.
7. Refund Requests
For a duplicate, incorrect, or unauthorized donation, contact VOB promptly and include the transaction date and receipt number. Do not email full payment-card details.
VOB reviews refund requests individually, subject to applicable law, payment-provider rules, and whether funds have already been committed or disbursed. Approved refunds normally return through the original payment method.
Refund terms for tickets, merchandise, auctions, or digital products will be disclosed separately before purchase. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under applicable law.
8. Tax Treatment
Tax deductibility depends on VOB’s applicable tax status, the transaction, and any goods or services received.
VOB will provide applicable acknowledgments but does not offer individual tax advice. A payment receipt alone does not establish that the entire payment is tax-deductible.
9. Funding Requests
Submitting a funding request does not guarantee approval, an award amount, or a payment date.
VOB considers requests according to its mission, available resources, student benefit, documentation, timing, and authorization procedures.
School endorsement is separate from VOB funding approval. Requesters must receive written VOB approval before making purchases in reliance on VOB funding.
Approved recipients must follow the award’s written conditions, which may include purchasing requirements, receipts, use restrictions, and closeout reporting.
10. Events and Activities
Event dates, locations, and arrangements may change. VOB will communicate significant changes using available contact information.
School-sponsored activities and independently organized activities may have different organizers and requirements. Event listings will identify the organizer when available.
Registration may require additional participation terms or permissions. These website Terms do not replace a separate event agreement or permission form.
11. Submitted Materials and Website Content
You retain ownership of original materials you submit. You confirm that you have permission to provide them. For materials specifically submitted for publication, such as an approved story, photograph, or testimonial, you give VOB a nonexclusive license to use them for the disclosed purpose and within the scope of your permission. Private form submissions are not automatically authorized for public promotion. VOB-created website materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may share public pages and unaltered VOB outreach materials for personal or community purposes with appropriate attribution. Other uses may require permission.
School, CPS, sponsor, and third-party names and logos belong to their respective owners.
12. External Websites and Providers
Our website may link to payment providers, DonorsChoose, school resources, sponsors, and other organizations.
Those services have their own terms and privacy policies. VOB does not control their availability, security, content, or independently administered transactions. A link does not necessarily constitute an endorsement. Donations made directly to another organization are administered by that organization.
13. Website Information and Availability
VOB aims to provide accurate information, but errors, outdated information, or service interruptions may occur. Contact us if you identify an error. Confirm official school requirements, deadlines, and policies directly with Brooks or CPS.
To the extent permitted by law, VOB provides the website as available without warranties of uninterrupted operation or complete accuracy.
14. Responsibility and Applicable Law
To the extent permitted by law, VOB is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from website use or services outside its control. These Terms do not exclude liability that applicable law does not allow VOB to exclude, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or gross negligence. Illinois law governs these Terms, subject to any mandatory protections that apply to you. Please contact VOB first so we can attempt to resolve a concern informally.
15. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how VOB collects, uses, and shares personal information. Please review it before submitting information through the website.
16. Changes to These Terms
VOB may revise these Terms and post an updated effective date. Material changes will receive additional notice when required.
Changes do not retroactively alter an accepted donation restriction, completed purchase, or existing written award agreement without appropriate agreement or legal authority.
